MPS in Digital Practice Management
Introducing NYSID new MPS in Digital Practice Management
Today, a large percentage of architecture firms across the country are using BIM in some capacity, driving the need for more digital practice leaders and managers—commonly referred to as BIM managers, BIM leads, BIM coordinators, BIM specialists, and other titles. Despite the growing demand, this emerging role lacks a clear definition or career path. It’s an area of the industry that has expanded rapidly without formal training or mentorship, leaving many professionals to learn through trial and error.
This raises important questions: What skills should a digital practice manager possess to successfully lead a firm? What qualifications should firm leaders prioritize when hiring? And what is the career trajectory for becoming a BIM lead? These are questions without clear answers—ones that Sam and Susy Mikhail, co-founders of 4iD, often encountered while advocating for the importance of BIM and digital practice within firms. They frequently heard a recurring story about BIM managers falling short of expectations, sparking a dialogue about how to address these challenges and reshape the paradigm.
After countless conversations—and a lot of hard work in between—this discussion culminated in the creation of the Master of Professional Studies in Digital Practice Management program at the New York School of Interior Design (NYSID). Directed by Samuel Mikhail, this groundbreaking program brings together a team of passionate professionals dedicated to driving meaningful change in the industry and setting the stage for a better future.
As the first program of its kind in the nation, it offers a unique opportunity to redefine the role of digital practice management. Learn more about what fuels Sam’s vision in this insightful Q&A.
